From "The Bodhisattva of Consecration" down, the sixth section consists of eight lines praising the patience of extinction above. It has two parts: the first five lines praise the lower grade of the patience of extinction on the tenth ground, and the last three lines praise the upper grade of the patience of extinction. In the first five lines there are ten phrases. "Consecration" means being above the thirteen Dharma masters, being the summit canopy over all masters, hence named consecration. Saying "kings of the five grounds" means the kings of the desire realm and the four dhyānas, or it could mean the kings of the five pure abodes; this clarifies the person who benefits others. The second phrase, "across a hundred million Gaṅgā-[sands of] lands," clarifies the practice that benefits others. The third phrase clarifies that the vajra-like mind newly penetrates firmness; hence it says "newly entering the vajra[-like mind], completely comprehending everything." The fourth phrase mentions "twenty-nine births": the tenth ground should have thirty births, so why does it only speak of twenty-nine births? It leaves one birth to be exhausted only on the Buddha ground. The fifth phrase, "the contemplation of lower patience," concludes the bodhisattva of the tenth ground, clarifying the measure of the cause. The sixth phrase, "a single transformation into wondrous awakening," clarifies the measure of attaining the fruit. The seventh phrase, "the three grades of masters of Equal [Contemplation], Wisdom [Light], and Consecration," is a general summary concluding that the preceding eighth, ninth, and tenth grounds equally attain the pure land; hence it says "three grades of masters." "Equal" is the eighth ground, "Wisdom" is the ninth ground, and "Consecration" is the tenth ground. The eighth phrase and the two phrases below clarify the measure of separating from obstacles. "Remove the remaining prior habits and the conditions of ignorance": from the eighth ground upward, one only severs the afflictions of habitual propensities of ignorance, form, mind, and so forth; hence it says "remove the remaining prior habits and the conditions of ignorance." "The habitual characteristics of ignorance are the old afflictions": these are the old afflictions, whereas the four entrenchments are adventitious afflictions. Grasper and grasped both cease, sphere and wisdom are both quiescent; hence it says "when the principle is exhausted, all are completely brought to an end."
