From 'great waters' onward is the fourth [calamity], the calamity of water. Where water is needed there is none, yet where it is unneeded it is abundant. Frost, hail, and the like all belong to the calamity of water. When red water rains down, warfare is frequent; when black water rains down, it brings disease; when blue-green water rains down, famine is rampant; when earth and stone rain down, it is the wrath of immortals and rākṣasas; when rivers and streams flow backward and sea waters inundate, bandits appear.
