問：護法宗，如《成唯識》不遣依他，如何此中說依他起非空非有？解云：護法正言，如《成唯識》不遣依他，而今欲成聖天論意，故立中道，而不相違。一云：護法正宗立中道義，而《成唯識》述瑜伽宗，故亦不違。

Question: In Dharmapāla's system, as in the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi, the other-dependent is not eliminated; why is it said here that the other-dependent is neither empty nor existent? Answer: Dharmapāla's authentic view, as in the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi, does not eliminate the other-dependent; but now, wishing to bring to completion the intention of Āryadeva's treatise, he establishes the Middle Way, and so there is no contradiction. Another says: Dharmapāla's fundamental tenet establishes the meaning of the Middle Way, whereas the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi recounts the Yogācāra tenet; therefore, there is also no contradiction.
