Explanation: Second, discerning the contemplation. The text has two divisions: first, contemplating the form aggregate; second, explaining the four aggregates by analogy. This is the first. However, in explaining this text, various interpretations differ. The first, the *Original Record*, says: '"Does not abide in form": the first phrase negates form; form is the form-aggregate, meaning physical obstruction. "Non-form": the second phrase negates the four aggregates, namely the cognitive mind and so forth. "Not-non-form": the third phrase doubly negates form and mind. If fully expressed, it should say "does not abide in non-form and not-non-form"; for the sake of brevity, it only says "not-non-form".' The meaning of this explanation is: The cognitive wisdom that contemplates that tathatā is free from form, free from non-form, and doubly free from form and non-form. Another says: Stating 'does not abide' means that because internally realised wisdom does not cling, it is called 'not abiding'. As in the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*, form has three kinds: 1. conceptualised form, which is the imaginal nature; 2. categorized form, which is the other-dependent nature; 3. form of the Dharmatā, which is the consummate nature. Due to the three naturelessnesses, the three forms of the three natures are dispelled; therefore it says 'does not abide in form' down to 'does not abide in not-non-form'. Another says: Tathatā of the Dharmatā is free from the four propositions and cuts off the hundred negations. Saying 'does not abide in form', etc.: if fully expressed, it should say 'does not abide in form, does not abide in non-form, does not abide in both form and non-form, and does not abide in neither form nor non-form'; for the sake of brevity, the third phrase and the two characters 'non-form' in the fourth phrase are omitted.
