Explanation: Second is praising the Buddha's preaching of the Dharma. The text has two sections: first it praises his wonderful eloquence, and afterward it praises the benefits of virtue. Skillful wording is eloquence (pratibhāna). Permeating everywhere near and far is called 'vast'. As for the 'eight sounds', the *Brahma-māra-upamā Sūtra* says: 'The sound of the Buddha preaching the Dharma has eight kinds: first, the most excellent sound; second, the easily understood sound; third, the soft sound; fourth, the harmonious sound; fifth, the sound of wisdom; sixth, the non-deceitful sound; seventh, the profound and wondrous sound; eighth, the non-effeminate sound.' Furthermore, the *Yingluo jing* has eight kinds of sounds, namely the internal and external causes and fruits, as well as the four unhindered sounds, which make eight. Furthermore, the *Damamūka-nidāna Sūtra*, the *Daśabhūmika-kleśaccheda Sūtra*, and others also speak of eight kinds, but differ from this; fearing verbosity, they are not presented. As for 'the assembly at that time attained the path, a million kotis', this is the second part praising the assembly's attainment of benefit. It can be known from the sūtra.
