Commentary: Second, explaining the reason. Taking emptiness as its object, it is called 'empty wisdom'. Its functional aspect is tranquil and quiet, devoid of the marks of grasper and grasped, hence it is called 'non-objective contemplation'. The previous mention of 'markless concentration' revealed the supporting concentration; this phrase reveals the contemplation-wisdom that relies upon it. The previous delusions confounding the mind took the mind as their object; therefore, the wisdom able to cut them off in turn contemplates the emptiness of the mind. 'Immeasurable retribution' refers to the object presently contemplated: the immeasurable mental retributions of the three realms.
