問：如何惡趣能得修慧益？薩婆多宗不許惡趣能得修慧，今大乘宗亦得修慧。故《大雲經》「諸畜生等，得定律儀。」

Question: How can those in evil destinies obtain the benefit of wisdom from cultivation? The Sarvāstivāda school does not allow that evil destinies can obtain wisdom from cultivation, but the present Mahāyāna school holds that they can also obtain wisdom from cultivation. Hence the *Mahāmegha-sūtra* says, 'Various animals and the like obtain the samādhi-restraint.'
