釋曰：第二、明生五根。謂四大所造眼等五根，能生五識，故名五根。

Commentary: Second, explaining the production of the five faculties. This means that the eye and other five faculties formed by the four great elements are able to produce the five consciousnesses; hence they are called the five faculties.
