Commentary: Fifth, explaining correlative designation. The text is divided into two parts: first, indicating two kinds. The first is mutually exclusive correlation, also called determinate correlation, such as all phenomena being mutually correlative; the second is mutually eclipsing correlation, also called indefinite correlation, as a one-foot object may be long or short depending on what it is compared to—speaking of long eclipses short, and speaking of short eclipses long. Therefore, the Benji says: 'All correlation is mutually exclusive correlation, because one phenomenon depends on all. Indefinite correlation is mutually eclipsing correlation, like rods and feet.' Some say: direct correlation is like speaking of existence and non-existence, or form relative to the eye, sound relative to the ear, and so on. Indefinite correlation is indirect correlation, like the five sense objects being mutually correlative, and so forth.
