Explanation: Second, refuting the assertions of different teachers. The text has two sections: first, presenting their heterodox claim; second, identifying it with non-Buddhists. That is, outsiders raise the doubt: "Do not the noble ones of the two vehicles exit outside the three realms? If you say that outside the three realms there are no sentient beings, what does the Buddha's teaching of the two vehicles transform?" Because of this, they posit sentient beings to be transformed outside the three realms. Therefore the World-Honoured One refutes this, saying: "That there is a realm of sentient beings outside the three realms is spoken in the Great Existence Sūtra of the Vaiśeṣika non-Buddhists; it was not spoken by the seven buddhas." As for "great existence," they teach six categories of padārtha: first, substance; second, quality; third, action; fourth, universal (great existence); fifth, particularity; sixth, inherence. Their teaching on great existence is called the Great Existence Sūtra.
