Commentary: Second, extinguishing hindrances. As for "extinguish the ten inversions," it means the contemplation of the four applications of mindfulness eliminates the four inversions, the contemplation of the three roots of good eliminates the three poisons, or the contemplation of the three times eliminates clinging to the three times. Clinging to a definite past cause, a future effect, and present causes and effects are all not in accord with the principle, and are collectively called inversions.
