Commentary: Third, the period of entry into the stage. "Equal noble ones" is the name of a bhūmi. It refers to entering the noble path of the first bhūmi, leaving behind the characteristics of grasper and grasped. Alternatively, in the first bhūmi one twin-realizes the two truths, hence it is called "equal." Avaivartika is rendered here as "non-retrogressing." It means that from the first bhūmi onward, one realizes the principle without retrogressing, hence "non-retrogressing." It means that by cultivating the pāramitās for three asaṃkhyeyas, one will enter the noble stage and abide in non-retrogression.
