Commentary: Second, the analytical-cessation unconditioned. That is, taking tathatā as an object to extinguish all characteristics of afflictions and the like, the tathatā thereby revealed is the analytical-cessation unconditioned. This has three names: first, analytical cessation (pratisaṃkhyā-nirodha). Its substance is itself wisdom. "Pratisaṃkhyā" means discrimination, and because it is the cessation attained through discrimination, it is called analytical cessation. Second, cessation through mental deliberation (saṃkhyā-nirodha). "Saṃkhyā" refers to the mental factor of wisdom; that which is attained by the mental factor of wisdom is called cessation through mental deliberation. Third, cessation through wisdom; "analytical" and "wisdom" are identical in meaning.
