Question: These five views that arise conceptually are already permanently severed when entering the first bhūmi; how can it be said here that, depending on the fourth bhūmi, one goes against the stream of the five views? The explanation says: In fact, the conceptually arisen five views are severed at the stage of the first bhūmi; now, severing their lingering latencies is called 'severing the five views'. If it were not so, doubt is subsumed only under conceptually arisen afflictions and is severed exclusively through seeing; how could it be said here that it is severed in the fifth bhūmi? Therefore, we know this is said in terms of lingering latencies.
