Explanation: From here down is the third major section: the assembly at that time obtaining benefits. According to the Original Record, the text has two parts: first, extensively showing the obtaining of benefits; and second, from "I now" downward, summarizing the obtaining of benefits.
Within the former there are six parts:
1. The sūtra states that the kings present attained entry into the first bhūmi: five hundred billion people attained entry into the first bhūmi; the first bhūmi refers to the ten faiths.
2. The sūtra states that there were also kings of the six desires who attained the bhūmi of nature-emptiness: eighty billion people among the devas of the six desires attained the bhūmi of nature-emptiness, which refers to the ten understandings.
3. The sūtra states that there were also eighteen kings who attained the patience of Dharma joy: this explains that the eighteen Brahma kings attained the patience of the non-arising of dharmas (anutpattika-dharma-kṣānti), which refers to the ten practices. Attaining the patience of the Dharma joy of non-arising refers to the ten dedications.
4. The sūtra states that there were further those up to the tenth bhūmi: this means that bodhisattvas in the stage of learning realized the first bhūmi up through the tenth bhūmi.
5. The sūtra states that there were kings of the eight classes who entered correct absorption in the heavens: this explains the asuras obtaining benefits. There are two kinds: first, attaining the ten samādhis and two samādhis. The ten samādhis are the all-pervading places; the two samādhis are the samādhis of the two truths. Alternatively, upon first entering the noble path, one must possess the samādhis: the ten samādhis are the samādhi of non-thought, and because it extinguishes the ten bhūmis, it is named the ten samādhis; the two samādhis are the two samādhis of emptiness and wishlessness. Second, turning into spirits and devas in correct absorption. "Correct absorption" means attaining the undefiled noble path.
6. The sūtra states that those present in this assembly […] up to "immeasurable faith in emptiness": this explains ordinary beings attaining faith in the Buddha-nature, termed faith in self-nature. "Immeasurable faith in emptiness" means having faith in the emptiness of dharmas.
