Explanation: Second is resolving the underlying objection. The text has two sections: first it cites the three underlying objections, and later, from "yet they cannot be" downward, sets forth the main doctrine. It briefly answers that a bodhisattva of the ten virtues has three aspects: first, practicing the ten correct paths for ten thousand kalpas; second, giving rise to the mind of awakening, by which he will enter the stage of the patience of practice; third, also constantly learning the three suppression patiences. Possessing these three aspects, one would think he should not retrogress. Why then is it said that there is retrogression and advancement? Therefore this is stated: although there are these three things, they cannot yet be designated with the name of the lineage of practice; this is called an undetermined person.
