Explanation: This praises the practice of mastery. 'Entering and emerging' refers to the mind that enters and emerges from the cessation absorption. 'Cessation absorption' explains that because this bodhisattva's uncontaminated mind of cessation is calm, quiescent, and does not arise, it resembles nirvāṇa. As the Yogācārabhūmi states: 'For one abiding in the cessation absorption, the activities of body, speech, and mind are all entirely ceased.' This will be elaborated below. 'Manifestations are difficult to fathom' explains that this bodhisattva's manifestations, adapting to various types [of beings] by concealing or revealing, are difficult to measure. As the Avataṃsaka says: 'The bodhisattva on this bhūmi, through the power of samādhi-cognition and great expedient means, although manifesting in saṃsāra, constantly abides in nirvāṇa; although surrounded by retinue, constantly delights in seclusion; although taking birth in the three realms by the power of vows, is not defiled by worldly dharmas.' Next, the eighth bhūmi: what is its meaning?
