問：凡聖同聽總說一時，淨穢同時應云一處。答：淨穢既異，即得定言。時中萬差，故總言一。一會根宜，聖凡勝劣、利鈍短長有多差別，不可定舉，總說一時。

Question: When ordinary beings and noble ones hear together, it is collectively described as "at one time"; since pure and defiled are simultaneous, it should also be described as "in one place." Answer: Since pure and defiled are distinct, a fixed designation can be made. In time there are myriad differences, so it is collectively termed "one." In a single assembly, the capacities and suitability, the superior and inferior, the sharp and dull, the short and long among noble and ordinary beings have many distinctions and cannot be designated definitively; thus it is collectively spoken of as "at one time."
