Exposition: These are the noble stages. As for "faithful kṣānti," it refers to verified faith. Because bodhisattvas of this stage personally realize tathatā, and the Three Jewels as well as morality are all purified through realization, these three bhūmis are therefore all named "faithful kṣānti." Although the subsequent bhūmis also possess these four, this is the initial direct realization that attains the name "purified through realization," as subsequent to the preparatory stage they mostly take this as their cognitive object. As for "Joyous": having first attained the noble nature and fully realized the two emptinesses, they are able to benefit themselves and others, producing great joy. As for "ground" (bhūmi): it serves as support and generates growth, where suchness and cognition are in correspondence, as will be fully explained below. As for the "Stainless Ground": possessing pure morality (śīla), they are far removed from the defiling afflictions that can give rise to subtle infractions. As for the "Luminous Ground": accomplishing superior concentration and the dhāraṇī of the Great Dharma, they are able to emit the light of boundless, wondrous wisdom. First from here is the proper exposition of cultivation. It is divided into two: first is explaining the severing of the three obstacles.
