The commentary states: This sūtra speaks in general terms, without specific names or numbers. The Yingluo jing says: "The so-called ten faiths, each having ten, constitute the one hundred gates of illumination into phenomena." The Avataṃsaka Sūtra says: "If a bodhisattva on this bhūmi practices energetic vigor, renounces family, wife, and children to go forth from the household life and study the Way, in a single instant they attain one hundred samādhis; with the pure divine eye they see one hundred buddha-lands; second, they see one hundred tathāgatas; third, they shake one hundred world-systems, and their body can also travel to those buddha-worlds emitting great light; fourth, they manifest as one hundred kinds of beings, universally enabling others to see them; fifth, they bring to maturity one hundred kinds of transformed sentient beings; sixth, if they wish to remain in body, they can abide for one hundred kalpas; seventh, they see the matters of one hundred kalpas across past and future; eighth, their cognitive vision can enter into one hundred gates of illumination into phenomena; ninth, they manifest one hundred bodies; tenth, each body can manifest a retinue of one hundred bodhisattvas. If, by the sovereign power of their vows, they make manifestations, the number exceeds this, such that even in hundreds of thousands of koṭis of nayutas of kalpas it cannot be calculated or known." If this sūtra's statement corresponds comprehensively to the eighth among these ten, you should understand that it possesses all of these. From here, the fourth section clarifies the cultivation of superior practice.
