The commentary explains: This means that from beginningless time, beings have been confused about their own true nature and moved by marks; this causes them to know them as illusory. 'Existing through the aggregation of various phenomena as illusory transformations' refers to the dharmas of the five aggregates. Because the five aggregates come together, it is called an 'aggregation'; these have no real substantial essence, existing only as illusory transformations. 'Aggregates, bases, and elements' clarifies the illusory dharmas. 'Without combination' means that the aggregates arise from conditions, and conditions are intrinsically empty of svabhāva, hence there is no combination. 'Without dispersion' means that through the provisional aggregation of manifold conditions they temporarily appear, hence they are not dispersed. From here, the third part explains that the nature of phenomena is empty.
