The commentary states: 'The characteristics of phenomena are like this' refers to the aforementioned object and cognition. 'The mind with attainment' is the mind that grasps signs. 'The mind without attainment' is nirvikalpa-jñāna. 'Are unattainable': the former mind with attainment is unattainable because it is false; the latter cognition without attainment is unattainable because it is real. Even if not personally realized, taking suchness as an object through similarity is also unattainable. Thus, among the four lines, the first indicates, the next enumerates, and the last summarizes. Hereafter is the second [section], explaining that it is neither identical nor separate.
