Exposition: 'The views of self and person' refers to the delusive inversion of sensation. 'The dharmas of matter and mind' refers to the bases of sensation. Sensation relies on matter and mind to arouse inversions regarding self and dharmas, experiencing various false and empty dharmas. 'Are like what is seen in a dream' clarifies that they are unreal. In a dream one takes them as real, but upon waking there is nothing at all. Thus Vijñaptimātratā says: 'Before attaining true awakening, one constantly dwells in a dream. The buddhas call it the long night of birth-and-death.' Therefore, one should know that creating karma, experiencing retribution, and transmigrating through realms and destinies are all like things in a dream, entirely unreal. When one attains true awakening, one will naturally understand this oneself. From this point, the third section clarifies the contemplation of the designation of names. Within it, there are four parts: first, indicating that names are unreal.
