The commentary explains: 'Phenomena are formed by conditions' marks conditioned things. Just as grain sprouts relying on water, earth, and so forth, why does it not say 'born' but says 'formed by conditions'? Because being born from causes and being formed by conditions are two distinct things. 'The dharmas of the aggregates, sense fields, and realms' displays all phenomena. These three fully encompass all conditioned things; simply speaking of matter and mind also encompasses them entirely. Although among the sense fields and realms unconditioned things are also included, here it takes only conditioned things that are formed relying on conditions. 'Like bubbles upon water' clarifies their unreality. When bubbles arise upon water, the bubbles have no real substance; since dharmas are formed from conditions, how could phenomena be real? Hereafter, the seventh part explains the designation of causal production.
