Exposition: Explaining the name of this abiding: contemplating the principle of non-duality, gradually becoming completely mature, hearing praise or slander of the Buddha their mind is not swayed; hence it is called the abiding of the upright mind. 'Hearing praise of the Buddha' and so forth means that this bodhisattva skillfully contemplates all dharmas as without substance and without nature, realizing they are like illusions and dreams; therefore, hearing praise or slander, their mind is stable and unmoving. As a sūtra says: 'Praising the Dharma or slandering the Dharma, praising or slandering bodhisattvas, hearing it said that sentient beings have defilement or lack defilement, are easy to deliver or difficult to deliver—in all cases they are stable and unmoving.' Here it is stated only in terms of the supreme, hence it says 'the Buddha'. From here is the seventh, explaining the abiding of non-retrogression.
