解曰：言下品者，三賢初也。修習等者，此位時長，具修福智諸行願也。從此第二聊簡內外。於中分二：初明忍方便、後明正定聚。初忍方便，文復分二：且初第一忍前方便。

Exposition: 'Inferior grade' refers to the beginning of the three worthies. 'Cultivate' and so forth: this stage being of long duration, they fully cultivate all the practices and vows of merit and wisdom. From here is the second, briefly distinguishing internal from external. Within it there are two: first, explaining the expedients of kṣānti; second, explaining the category of correct determination. Within the first, the expedients of kṣānti, the text is again divided into two: first, the expedients prior to kṣānti.
