Explaining the name of the practice: Skillfully cultivating superior practices without stagnating in emptiness or existence is called the practice of non-attachment; investigation of dharmas is its nature. "Realizing that existence is like an illusion": realizing that conditioned things are like an illusion and unreal. As the sūtra says: "Contemplating dharmas as like illusions, buddhas as like shadows, bodhisattva practices as like dreams, the Buddha expounding the Dharma as like echoes, and the world as like transformations." Through understanding these, one is not attached to emptiness or existence. This is the practice of skillful means. From here, the eighth clarifies the practice of difficult attainment.
