Explanation: As for "namo", it is taking refuge with one's life, also called bowing one's head, also called prostrating with the crown of the head. As for "ārya", here it is translated as "noble one". As for "vairocana", here it is translated as "all-illuminating", also called "Great Sun". Just as the mundane sun illuminates only one side, shines by day and does not shine at night, illuminates one world and does not illuminate other worlds, it only gets the name "sun" and does not get the name "great". Vairocana is called "Great Sun" because his physical body and Dharma body pervade the dharmadhātu everywhere, completely illuminating the worlds of the ten directions. If a person invokes his name, takes refuge with their life, and worships him, they will obtain the empowerment and protection of all buddhas, bodhisattvas, sages, and the eight classes of beings of the dharmadhātu. As for "tathāgatāya", here it is translated as "Tathāgata". As for "arhate", here it is translated as "worthy of offerings", also called "slayer of enemies", also called "non-arising". As for "samyak", here it is translated as "correct". As for "saṃbuddhāya", here it is translated as "equal awakening". In the phrasing of this land, it says: "Taking refuge with life in the noble All-Illuminating Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha", who is the original teacher. Here the Dharma Jewel is omitted; because the Dharma Jewel is explained in detail below in the main tenet, it is omitted here. From here, the second [part] explains taking refuge in the Saṅgha Jewel.
