In the eighth reign of our August Tang, the living beings were remade; the mysterious transformation is boundless, and proper punishments bring order. Raising the fallen net and bracing the collapsing cords, driving the common people toward the grounds of blessing and longevity, guiding the blue waves toward the dwelling of the unconditioned, broadly exercising luminous virtue and gloriously magnifying the imperial will, an edict was issued commanding Tripiṭaka Master Amoghavajra to retranslate this scripture. The Tripiṭaka Master was eloquent in both languages and transmitted the teachings of the three mysteries. Expounding the esoteric depths in the Dragon Palace, his profound purport reached heaven; the sun of the Buddha shone again at noon, and the true breeze blew forever. Liangbi’s learning is isolated from the former sages, yet he remained quietly among the pure assembly; presumptuously joining the translation transmission, he unworthily served as recorder. Having the fortune to be praised at the Heavenly Court and personally receiving the virtuous voice, he now prepares this commentary and expounds it at the Southern Peach Orchard of the Daming Palace. As the imperial radiance shines intimately upon him, he cannot shrink from his post. Stealing the dark pearl from the palm leaves only increases his shame and trepidation; holding up the white jade at the vermilion steps, how could he ever match the debt he owes? Looking upward to repay the August Favor, and looking downward to examine his loyal diligence, having exhausted his humble sincerity, he hopes it may reflect the mysterious creation.
