The commentary explains: 'A bodhisattva of equal enlightenment' refers to the stage of equal enlightenment following the ten bhūmis. 'Attains the vajra-like samādhi' refers to the final, supreme samādhi. 'The causes and fruits of the two kinds of death are empty' means that this bodhisattva has subtle obscurations corresponding to what must be cured—the two kinds of birth-and-death, portioned and transformational. Why does this stage have portioned [death]? Because the seeds of afflictions are its cause, and because through the untainted [cognition] they extend the portioned aggregates into transformation. Furthermore, fundamental ignorance, extending from the root to the branches, is its cause. 'All-knowledge' refers to the cognition that is capable of severing [them]. Both that which is capable of severing and that which is severed lack intrinsic nature; hence it says 'also empty'. Next is the third part, clarifying that the resultant virtues are empty.
