The commentary states: "The root of all bodhisattva practice," and so forth, clarifies the root of the bodhisattva practices upon entering the kalpas, which is the ten faithful minds. This mind is difficult to arouse; as the earlier sūtra says: "Ganges-sands-like beings see the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha, yet those who enter faith are extremely few." If one attains the ten faiths, upon reaching the sixth mind one will never regress, meaning non-regression of faith, because one is certain to realize non-arising and reach the first bhūmi. Although before the seventh abode one might still turn to the two vehicles, even if so, before long one will surely attain it. Another interpretation: if one attains the faithful mind, meaning the ten faithful minds, "never regressing" refers to the seventh stage of the ten abodes, which is non-regression of position; prior to this, regression is possible. As the *Yingluo jing* says: "The Heavenly Son Śuddhanetra, Prince Dharmamati, Śāriputra, and others wished to enter the seventh, but encountering conditions, they regressed." Next, the third part concludes the name and discriminates the characteristics.
