The commentary states: Because of hearing the Dharma, receiving the spiritual power of the Buddha, they immediately saw the buddhas of the ten directions, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges. "Each in their bodhimaṇḍas..." means that all the buddhas, each abiding in the ocean-like assemblies of their own lands' bodhimaṇḍas, were preaching the fourteen kṣāntis. They were no different from what the World-Honoured One is preaching now, expressing that those who could preach were the same and what was preached was the same; by the power of the Dharma, what was heard and seen was identical. Just as in the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, Bodhisattva Dharmamati preached the ten abodes, Bodhisattva Guṇavana preached the ten practices, Bodhisattva Vajradhvaja preached the ten dedications, and Bodhisattva Vajragarbha preached the ten bhūmis, and at the end of each assembly the bodhimaṇḍa was adorned, each subsequently excelling the previous, with asaṃkhya numbers of jewelled banners, flags, and canopies, and diverse adornments, causing that contemporary assembly to universally see bodhisattvas of the same name throughout the ten directions identically preaching the cultivation. Now in this sūtra, the World-Honoured One speaks it himself; therefore they see the ocean-like assemblies of the buddhas throughout the ten directions, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, all preaching identically. Third, following upon this, is cultivating according to what was taught.
