From "Not empty" onward is the third [section]: revealing the correct and eliminating the incorrect to clarify the Middle Way. The words "not empty" and so forth refer to: because of lack of intrinsic nature, it is empty; because of pratītyasamutpāda, it is empty; this constitutes true emptiness. Zhenguo said: "It reveals the correct." "Empty yet not annihilated" means that it is not the emptiness of the view of non-existence or the view of annihilation. Zhenguo said: "It eliminates the incorrect." The non-existence of the view of annihilation is a non-existence of fixed nature; a fixed non-existence clings to annihilation. Now, being empty because of pratītyasamutpāda is not a fixed non-existence. Being empty because of lack of intrinsic nature is also not a fixed non-existence. A fixed non-existence is utterly without things, like turtle fur and rabbit horns. Now, it merely lacks intrinsic nature from conditions, so it is not a fixed non-existence; therefore, it is empty yet not annihilated. "Not existent" and so forth also first reveals the correct and afterwards eliminates the incorrect. "The existence of non-existence" means: existence because of lack of intrinsic nature, and existence because of pratītyasamutpāda; these two kinds of existence are by no means the existence of eternalism. The existence of eternalism is an existence of fixed nature. Now, the existence that is from conditions and lacks intrinsic nature is not an existence of fixed nature; it reveals that it is illusory existence, which reveals the correct. Since it is not an existence of fixed nature, it says "existent yet not permanent," which eliminates the incorrect. Thus it is true emptiness and wondrous existence, the Middle Way that departs from annihilation and permanence.
