Question: The Notes on Awakening says that the emptiness school holds the Buddha's virtues to be empty, saying that in the various divisions of Prajñā and throughout the Hundred Verse Treatise and the Twelve Gate Treatise from beginning to end, this is so, and it also cites "with nothing to attain" and so forth in this sūtra, all calling it their doctrine. On what basis do you now speak of the virtues of permanence, bliss, and so forth? Answer: That was to complete the position of Zhiguang; this accords with the commentary master. Because below, in determining what is attained, it says "no virtue is not complete", it is not that the Buddha's virtues are empty.
