「爾時彌勒菩薩欲自決疑」此下盡偈，是第四發問序。亦有兩段：第一，經家敘彌勒自欲問之意；第二，從「而問文殊師利言」以下竟偈，是正問也。又此兩段之中各開為二，經家敘欲問中有二者，第一，言「爾時彌勒菩薩欲自決疑」，經家敘彌勒自欲問意也。第二，「又觀四眾」竟「眾會之心」，此明經家敘彌勒有兼他之意，兼他之意者，欲騰大眾疑念以問文殊也。

From "At that time Maitreya Bodhisattva wished to resolve his own doubts" down to the end of the verses is the fourth [section], the preface of posing questions. It also has two parts: first, the compiler of the scripture relates Maitreya's own intention to ask; second, from "and asked Mañjuśrī, saying" down to the end of the verses is the formal asking of the questions. Furthermore, within these two parts each is divided into two. Regarding the compiler's relating the intention to ask having two [parts]: first, saying "At that time Maitreya Bodhisattva wished to resolve his own doubts" is the compiler relating Maitreya's own intention to ask. Second, from "and observing the fourfold assembly" down to "the minds of the assembled gathering" explains that the compiler relates that Maitreya had the intention of including others. The intention of including others means wishing to bring forth the doubts and thoughts of the great assembly in order to question Mañjuśrī.
