「爾時舍利弗而說偈言」，第一舉設請段中本有二，長行與偈。此下是第二，偈頌凡有十一行，偈亦分為二：初有六行半偈正頌上長行，第二從「於諸聲聞眾佛說我第一」有四行半偈，更直說自疑所得，不頌上長行。

“At that time Śāriputra spoke in verse, saying…” In the first section presenting the request, there were originally two parts: prose and verse. What follows is the second part, the verses, numbering eleven stanzas in total. The verses are also divided into two: first, six and a half stanzas directly versify the preceding prose; second, from “Among the assembly of śrāvakas, the Buddha declared me foremost,” there are four and a half stanzas that directly state his own doubt regarding what he attained, not versifying the preceding prose.
