3.56

「舍利弗當知我見佛子等志求佛道者無量千萬億」，此一偈是第五，此間詺為佛見三乘人有大乘機發，機發是理故言志求，此則為下火宅中第五長者見子免難譬作本，下言「是時長者見諸子等安隱得出火宅」下是也。

"Śāriputra, you should know that I see the Buddha's sons and others who aspire to seek the Buddha-path, immeasurable thousands of myriads of koṭis of them"—this one verse is the fifth [section]. Here this is designated as the Buddha seeing that the capacity for the Great Vehicle has arisen in the persons of the three vehicles. The arising of capacity accords with principle, hence it is said that they 'aspire to seek'. This serves as the basis for the fifth parable below in the burning house, where the elder sees the sons escape the disaster; it corresponds to the passage below stating, "At that time the elder saw that the sons had emerged safely from the burning house…"
