觀世音者可有四名：一名觀世音，正言觀世間音聲而度脫之也；二名觀世音身，即是觀眾生身業而度脫之；三言觀世意，即是觀眾生意業而度脫之也；四者名觀世業，此則通前三種。

Regarding "Avalokiteśvara," there can be four names: first, named Avalokiteśvara ("Contemplator of the World's Sounds"), referring precisely to contemplating the sounds of the world and liberating them; second, named "Contemplator of the World's Physical Actions," which is contemplating the bodily actions of sentient beings and liberating them; third, called "Contemplator of the World's Mental Actions," which is contemplating the mental actions of sentient beings and liberating them; fourth, named "Contemplator of the World's Actions," which encompasses the previous three kinds.
