"If there are sentient beings..." From here down is the third, regarding followers of the bodhisattva vehicle, again making a four-stage direct application. The initial words "hearing the Dharma from the Buddha, the World-Honoured One, they faithfully accept it" apply the first stage, "each eager and vigorous in heart," giving rise to the wholesome roots of an external ordinary person. "Diligent and vigorous" is the second, applying "pushing and jostling one another," clarifying that when a bodhisattva hears the Buddha preach the Dharma, they give rise to the wholesome roots of an internal ordinary person. From "seeking omniscience" downwards is the third, applying the above "vying with each other to run out": hearing the Buddha preach the Dharma, a bodhisattva advances into signless practice and severs fetters through contemplation on the vision of truth. "Buddha-wisdom" is the Buddha-fruit within the three vehicles. "Unprompted wisdom" is explained as before. "Teacherless wisdom" directly clarifies that by completely severing habit-energies, one accomplishes the fruit of a non-learner; the wisdom of a non-learner is called teacherless wisdom. "This is called the Great Vehicle" is the fourth, applying the above "scrambling out of the burning house," realizing the fruit of a non-learner. From "Just like those sons..." downwards, it cites the external parable and attaches the application.
