今稱妙法之經，即是教之通別。各賜諸子等一大車，乘是寶乘，直至道場，即行之通別。或言實相，或言佛知見、大乘家業、一地實事、寶所、繫珠、平等大慧等，即是理之通別。約此三義，故立兩名也。

Now calling it the sūtra of the subtle Dharma: this is the general and specific of doctrine. Giving each of the sons equally one great carriage, riding this jeweled carriage straight to the place of enlightenment: this is the general and specific of practice. Or calling it the true mark, or the buddha-knowledge and vision, the heritage of the Great Vehicle, the real matter of the single ground, the place of jewels, the sewn-in jewel, the universal great wisdom, and so forth: this is the general and specific of principle. It is in terms of these three meanings that the two names are established.
