燈、炬、星、月與闇共住，譬諸經存二乘道果，與小並立，日能破闇故。《法華》破化城，除草庵故。又日映奪星月，令不現故。《法華》拂迹，除方便故。

Lamps, torches, stars, and the moon abide together with darkness, which exemplifies other sūtras preserving the path and fruit of the two vehicles and standing alongside the small; the sun can destroy darkness, which exemplifies the Lotus destroying the conjured city and removing the thatched hut. Furthermore, the sun outshines the stars and the moon, causing them not to appear; the Lotus sweeps away the traces and eliminates the expedient means.
