記者釋曰：蓋「序王」者，敘經玄意。玄意述於文心，文心莫過迹本。仰觀斯旨，眾義冷然。妙法蓮華，即敘名也；示真實之妙理，敘體也；歸廣大之一乘，敘宗也；蕩化城之執教，敘用也；一期化圓，敘教也；六譬，敘迹本也。文略意周矣。

The recorder explains: The 'Sovereign Preface' sets forth the sūtra's profound meaning. The profound meaning is articulated in the core of the text, and the core of the text does not go beyond traces and original source. Looking up at this purport, the manifold meanings become clear and distinct. The Saddharmapuṇḍarīka sets forth the title; displaying the subtle principle of reality sets forth the substance; returning to the vast and grand eka-yāna sets forth the central purport; sweeping away the rigid teaching of the conjured city sets forth the function; the perfection of a single teaching period's conversion sets forth the teaching; and the six metaphors set forth the traces and the original source. The phrasing is concise, yet the meaning is comprehensive.
