10.134

從一開一者，十方佛土中，唯有一乘法，眾生不解，全生如乳。從此圓一乘，開出別一乘，眾生又不解，亦全生如乳。又開出體法一乘，眾生又不解，亦全生如乳。又開出析法一乘，眾生即解，是則轉乳為酪。次入體法，即轉酪為生蘇。次入別一乘，即轉生蘇為熟蘇。次轉入圓一乘，如轉熟蘇為醍醐，是中備有頓、漸、不定（云云）。此是從一以開一，從一以歸一也。

Opening the one from the one: in the buddha-lands of the ten directions, there is only the teaching of the single vehicle; sentient beings do not understand, so it is entirely raw, like milk. From this perfect single vehicle, one opens the distinctive single vehicle; sentient beings still do not understand, so it is also entirely raw, like milk. One also opens the single vehicle of perceiving the nature of dharmas; sentient beings still do not understand, so it is also entirely raw, like milk. One also opens the single vehicle of analyzing dharmas; sentient beings then understand, and this transforms milk into curd. Next, entering the perception of dharmas transforms curd into raw butter. Next, entering the distinctive single vehicle transforms raw butter into clarified butter. Next, transitioning to enter the perfect single vehicle is like transforming clarified butter into ghee. In this, the sudden, gradual, and indeterminate are fully present (and so forth). This is opening the one from the one, and returning to the one from the one.
