10.94

總就諸教通作四句，華嚴、三藏非合非不合，方等、般若一向不合，法華一向合，涅槃亦合亦不合。何者？涅槃為末代更開諸權，引後代鈍根，故言亦不合。

Taking all the teachings generally and making four propositions: the Avataṃsaka and the Tripiṭaka are neither merging nor non-merging; the Vaipulya and Prajñā are solely non-merging; the Lotus Sūtra is solely merging; the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra is both merging and non-merging. Why is this? The Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra opens various provisional teachings once more for future generations to guide the dull-witted capacities of later ages; therefore it is said to be also non-merging.
