Second, clarifying the stage of pratyekabuddha: this is translated as 'condition-enlightened'. This person's merit from past lives is profound, their spiritual faculties are keen and sharp, and they can contemplate the truth of origination as their initial gate. The Great Treatise calls them solitarily enlightened (khaḍgaviṣāṇa / pratyekabuddha) and condition-enlightened. If they appear in an era without a buddha and awaken to the path naturally, they are solitarily enlightened; if they appear in an era with a buddha, hear the Dharma of the twelve links of dependent origination, and receive this to attain the path, they are called condition-enlightened. The solitarily enlightened born in an era without a buddha has lesser and greater types. If originally a learner, now born after a buddha, having completed seven births and not receiving an eighth birth, they naturally accomplish the path; they are not called a buddha, nor are they an arhat, but are called a lesser pratyekabuddha. In terms of the power of their path, they do not equal great arhats such as Śāriputra. Second, the greater pratyekabuddha: within two hundred kalpas they form a body of merit, attaining the thirty-two marks partially, or thirty-one, thirty, twenty-nine, down to a single mark. Their power of merit increases, their wisdom is sharp, and they are able to know and enter both general marks and specific marks. Having long cultivated and accumulated concentration, they always delight in solitude; hence they are called greater pratyekabuddhas. If discussing lesser and greater in terms of conditions, it should also be distinguished in this manner. This person's faculties are sharp; there is no need to demarcate fruitions. They are able to sever the principal fetters and moreover attack their residual habits. Just like one of robust body who goes straight to their destination without resting halfway, they do not demarcate fruitions. This concludes the stage of the intermediate grass.
