大樹位者，別教位也。此為三：一、出經論不同。二、總明位。三、別明位。此別教，名、義、理、惑、智、斷，皆別。此正約因緣假名、恒沙佛法、如來藏理、常住涅槃、無量四諦而論位次。

The stage of the great tree is the stage of the distinctive teaching. This has three parts: 1. Showing the variations among sūtras and treatises; 2. Explaining the stages in general; 3. Explaining the stages in detail. In this distinctive teaching, names, meanings, principles, delusions, wisdom, and severances are all distinctive. This precisely discusses the sequence of stages in terms of causal-and-conditional provisional names, buddha dharmas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, the principle of the tathāgatagarbha, the eternally abiding nirvāṇa, and the immeasurable four truths.
