5.100

今標二乘不知，兩處菩薩亦不能測。發心不知，即指別教十信；不退不能知，即指別教三十心。十住，位不退。十行，行不退。十迴向，念不退。此三不退皆不能知。三藏中不退，尚不及二乘；通教中不退，止等二乘，二乘不知，豈重舉菩薩？今標發心不退者，則擬別教中人也。

Now, by indicating that the two vehicles do not know it, the bodhisattvas of both places are also incapable of fathoming it. "Those who have resolved their minds do not know it" refers to the ten faiths of the distinctive teaching; "the non-retrogressing are unable to know it" refers to the thirty minds of the distinctive teaching. The ten abodes are non-retrogression of stage. The ten practices are non-retrogression of practice. The ten dedications of merit are non-retrogression of mindfulness. None of these three non-retrogressions can know it. The non-retrogressing within the tripiṭaka [teaching] are still inferior to the two vehicles; the non-retrogressing within the shared teaching merely equal the two vehicles; if the two vehicles do not know it, why mention the bodhisattvas again? Now, indicating those who have resolved their minds and are non-retrogressing targets the persons of the distinctive teaching.
