優波提舍妙者，身子問佛，佛答諸佛智慧門。龍女、智積問答，論法華事。智積云：「我見釋迦經無量劫，方成菩提。不信此女，須臾成佛。」此執別疑圓。龍女云：「佛自證知。」以圓珠獻佛，此以圓答別。此即提舍妙也。

The subtlety of upadeśa (instruction / treatises): Śāriputra questioned the Buddha, and the Buddha replied regarding the gate of wisdom of all buddhas. The dragon girl and Jñānaprabha engaged in question and answer, discussing matters of the *Lotus Sūtra*. Jñānaprabha said: 'I saw Śākyamuni pass through immeasurable kalpas before attaining bodhi. I do not believe this girl can become a buddha in an instant.' This was clinging to the distinctive and doubting the perfect. The dragon girl said: 'The Buddha himself bears witness,' and presented the perfect jewel to the Buddha; this was answering the distinctive with the perfect. This is the subtlety of upadeśa.
