If one cultivates and maintains the ten wholesome actions naturally and without interruption, and the wholesome mind matures, this is celestial karma. Therefore it is said: A mind of pure evil, uninterrupted by wholesome thoughts, is the karma of the evil destinies, because the fruit is pure suffering. Wholesome and unwholesome arising in alternation is human karma, because the fruit in the human realm alternates between suffering and pleasure. The ten wholesome actions naturally fulfilled are celestial karma, because the retribution in the heavens is spontaneous. If one cultivates the ten wholesome actions and concurrently gives rise to the mind of protecting the Dharma, that is the karma of the Four Heavenly Kings. If one cultivates the ten wholesome actions and concurrently transforms people with loving-kindness, that is the karma of the Thirty-Three Gods. If one cultivates the ten wholesome actions, and one's mind is subtle, exquisite, naturally matured, not vexing sentient beings in walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, being purely continuous with skillful means, that is the karma of the Yāma [heavens]. If one cultivates the ten wholesome actions and concurrently cultivates dhyāna concentration to collect the mind, reaching coarse abiding and subtle abiding, that is the karma of the Tuṣita [heavens]; the concentration of the desire realm is the karma of the Nirmāṇarati [heavens]; the threshold concentration that shatters phenomenal hindrances is the karma of the Paranirmitavaśavartin [heavens]; the four dhyānas are the karma of the form realm; concurrently attaining concentration within the mental factors of benevolence, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity is the karma of the Brahmā Kings; and extinguishing the mind to cultivate the concentration of non-conception is the karma of the realm of non-conception.
