The six metaphors of the two gates each have that which they correspond to: The first layer: based on the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm, setting forth the ten suchnesses of the nine realms. The second layer: opening the ten suchnesses of the nine realms to reveal the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm. The third layer: abolishing the ten suchnesses of the nine realms to establish the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm. The three metaphors encompass the beginning and end of the trace gate in full. If one grasps this meaning, the twelve links of dependent origination, the four noble truths, the three truths, equal wisdom, practice, stages, and even merits and benefits are also illustrated by these metaphors (and so on). The fourth layer: based on the ten suchnesses of the original Buddha realm, setting forth the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm within the traces. The fifth layer: opening the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm within the traces to reveal the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm within the origin. The sixth layer: abolishing the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm within the traces to establish the ten suchnesses of the Buddha realm within the origin. Complete and perfected from beginning to end, with opening and closing fully present—this is how the lotus flower is used as a metaphor in part.
